The Eve Appeal
Gynaecological cancers have a devastating effect on so many women and their families in the UK and worldwide. Every year one million women worldwide are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer, just 200,000 fewer than the number of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. Together, these cancers (ovarian, cervix, endometrial, vulva and vagina) account for 10% of all cancers and have a mortality rate in excess of 65%.
In the UK, 18,000 women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer every year, and nearly 7,500 women die from the disease.
Yet despite these grim statistics, gynaecological cancers are neither a well-profiled nor a well-funded cause.
The Eve Appeal is determined to change this.
The Eve Appeal was set up to save women's lives by funding world leading research into gynaecological cancers.
Thanks to positive interim results from our screening trials and recent new discoveries in our research labs we now know that we are making a real impact on the disease and that our aim to halve deaths from gynaecological cancer is achievable.
